So if you follow me at all on my couponing, you are probably
now wondering how in the world I am planning on feeding my husband and myself
this week since the only food I actually bought this week was coffee creamer,
applesauce, pasta, whole wheat tortillas, salad dressing and chex mix!
I thought I would expand upon my plan this week. Last week my Mom and I made all those freezer
meals! I don’t want to use them all up
at once as the idea behind it for me is to use them on a day when I’m exhausted
or am really busy and don’t have time to cook.
But I’m planning on throwing one or two in there this week (might have spaghetti tonight!).
- I have lots of pasta from last week which we’ll probably use in at least one meal.
- We have lots of soup stocked up from previous weeks that we love to have for lunches along with grilled cheese. -PB&J's are one of our favorites for lunch too.
- I have shrimp in the freezer still from a few weeks back and I got a scampi skillet sauce, so maybe I’ll make shrimp scampi this week!
- I also have TONS of steaks down in our freezer from last week’s buy one get one at Safeway.
- I also have a 30lb ham I bought over thanksgiving that I need to cook and divide up for meals and sandwich meat.
- We still have potatoes and they are always a staple in our home.
- I have rice still that my mom bought us from right after we got married.
- And I also have bags of frozen veggies in our freezer from a few weeks ago I got for cheap at Target.
- Dirk also has 2 gallons of milk in the fridge from last week that I got on sale which will last him another week.
- My soy milk lasts a long time as I usually only use it in my cereal and soy also lasts a lot longer than normal milk.
- Still have tons of cereal for breakfasts and I also still have eggs from last week’s purchase that I got to make the freezer meals. We also have breakfast burritos in the freezer from last week.
- I have frozen berries I got from Costco that I’ll use to make smoothies.
- And we have lots of coffee still from our Target purchase in December.
- Also, we still have paper towels from months ago that we bought at Costco and I ordered more TP from Amazon, which was cheaper than Costco (although Costco is hard to beat) which just arrived.
So even though from week to week you don’t see how meals
come together from my shopping, its buying things at a good price and stocking
up which allows me to only spend $17 this week on groceries and hardly buy
food. Now…I have a $75 budget for this
week. That means I’ll probably go buy us
some fresh fruits and veggies later in the week and that also leaves room for
last minute purchases.
I hope that gives a better view of how I actually do cook
for us. Now, there are only 2 of us so
we don’t consume a lot of food. One bag
of rice will last us months as we only use it for maybe one meal a week. We only use two potatoes per meal which we
use maybe 2-3 times a week. One box of
pasta lasts 4-6 meals for us! One small bag of veggies will last at least 4 meals. So you can see how it lasts us quite a while!
But I’m planning on showing more of my everyday shopping as
well as my coupon shopping. I’m planning
a blog about my Costco shopping to show you how valuable a Costco membership
can be even with all the couponing!
Happy Couponing!
